Therapy is in session in Eminem and Rihanna's new music video for "The Monster," a song sitting at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.
A patient in the office of Dr. Rihanna, the 41-year-old rapper confronts his past selves, his storied career and his infamous antics in this nostalgia-fueled mini movie of self-discovery.
The video recreates memorable scenes from 1999's "My Name Is" (the straitjacket and a concerned-looking Dr. Dre), 2002's "Lose Yourself" (from the8 Milesoundtrack) and his "Stan" performance with Elton John at the Grammy Awards in 2001.
The retro visions culminate in a face-to-face encounter between modern-day Eminem and a caged "monster," who turns out to be an animalistic Eminem full of rage and drugs.
The top-charting single marks Rihanna's 13th time at No. 1 on the Hot 100, tying Michael Jackson for the third-most No. 1s, behind Mariah Carey with 18 and The Beatles with 20.
Eminem recently won Artist of the Year at the inaugural fan-voted YouTube Music Awards, while 25-year-old Rihanna earned the first-ever Icon Award at the American Music Awards, in part for ranking as the top-selling digital artist,most-Liked person on Facebook and most-viewed musician on YouTube.
