The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar on Friday said
the permit for the use of tinted factory vehicle glasses does not
attract any ant charge.
The IG was reacting to public outcry against fees allegedly demanded
by the policemen across the country for permission to use tinted motor
glasses. He stated while fielding questions during a meeting with the
Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of Zonal Commands
across the country that it is illegal for officers to charge fees for
the permit.
The IGP said motorists should allow any policeman to subject them to
paying any fee that has not been approved by the Police high command.
According to Abubakar,"It is free of charge, there is no amount of
money written there for anybody. And they (motorists) should not allow
any policeman anywhere to subject them to paying fees that are not
officially, legally and legitimately stated," he said.
The IGP said that the meeting with the AIGs was to review security
challenges including terrorism, kidnapping, cultism and communal
clashes in parts of the country in order to strategise on how to
address them.
