Dramatic chase on Dubai roads: Police arrest carjacker The suspect allegedly offered to help the car owner in repairing his vehicle before speeding away with it

In a dramatic high-speed chase Dubai Police nabbed a carjacker, who
attempted to flee abandoning the car on the road when he was tracked
down late at night.

According to a report in Al Khaleej, an Asian man's Hyundai car was
stolen from the parking bay of Emirates Cooperative Society in Nahda
on April 15.

The car owner called the operations room of Dubai Police at about 10pm
claiming that while he was busy changing a tyre on his vehicle, an
African offered to help him.

The owner alleged that after changing the tyre on his Hyundai car, as
he parked the car and was busy with the tyre, the suspect drove away
with his vehicle towards Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director, General Directorate,
Traffic, Dubai Police, said, "Traffic patrols were immediately alerted
and they began combing the roads to prevent the suspect from getting
afar."

Soon, they spotted the Hyundai vehicle, which matched the description
given by its owner, driving down Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road
before Warqaa Bridge.

However, the moment the patrol attempted to flag the suspect down, he
raised speed and gave police a hard chase.

He drove recklessly endangering lives of other motorists on the road
before turning towards Al Rashidiya through Rabat Road. Maj-Gen Zafeen
added after a the patrol cars cornered him, he had no alternative but
to stop the stolen vehicle on the road.

He abandoned the car and attempted to flee, however, police chased him
for about 700 metres and arrested him, reported Emarat Al Youm.
