10 Nigerian Fraudsters Arrested In India Over Lottery Fraud

10 Nigerians have been arrested over a massive lottery fraud in far away country of India.
According to New Indian Express, cyber crime police of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), on Tuesday, arrested the 10 Nigerian citizens, who allegedly duped people in the name of lottery. Police also seized laptops, mobile phones, Internet data cards etc from the accused.
All the accused are residents of Chandhansar Gaon, Virar East, Thane district, Maharashtra. After the arrest, they were brought to Hyderabad, police said.
According to police, this type of cheating is known as Nigerian lottery fraud. In this case, a person belonging to Nizamabad district lodged a complaint with cyber crime police station on February 25, 2012, stating that he was cheated by some online fraudsters, who communicated to him that he had won an international lottery.
The culprits extracted `27 lakh from him in the name of processing charges, customs duty etc, to claim the prize amount. They made their victim deposit amounts in various bank accounts, opened under fictitious names. A case was registered under the IT (Amendment) Act, 2008, and various sections of IPC.
After investigation, police managed to bust the racket and arrested 10 persons on Tuesday. During the course of interrogation, the accused confessed that they have been involved in the fraud for a long time.
The arrested are: Emakpor Nestor, Ifeanyichukwu Charles Benkuty, Akpevwe Francis, Ukulor Emmanuel Tamara and others.
