3 men drug Chinese, stole N7m

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday paraded three persons suspected to have drugged a 61-year-old Chinese in a hotel in Festac Town and stolen about N7 million belonging to him.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Umar Manko, paraded the suspects before journalists at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.
Manko said that the Chinese brought mobile telephone accessories to Nigeria for sale about five months ago, and that the suspects had some business discussions with him before the alleged crime.
``On Jan. 27, the victim claimed that the suspects were with him in his hotel room, where one of them provided food for him. He claimed that after eating the food, he slept off while the suspects went to a warehouse, where the goods were stored and started loading them in a truck.
``While they were loading the goods, a sister to the victim, who was at the warehouse, requested to know the whereabouts of his brother.
The suspects told her that her brother was sick and could not come with them. The woman, suspecting a foul play, went to check the man in the hotel, only to discover the man’s body on the bed.
She raised an alarm; the case was reported to the police, and the suspects were arrested before they could escape.
``When the victim regained consciousness, he claimed his N1 million and $400,000 (about N6 million) were stolen by the suspects,’’ Manko said.
